The Gospel of John

AuthorJohn
Date WrittenBelieved to be 85-90AD (The last of the Gospels)

John was one of Jesus’ disciples. He wrote his own account of the life of Jesus on earth which is very different from the other three Gospels that also record Jesus’ life. It is believed that the Gospel of John was written well after the other three Gospels and was intended for a non-Jewish audience since John explains some of the terms that would have been familiar to Jewish readers1.

Key Themes

John opens his book with “in the beginning” which harks back to Genesis 1. In Genesis 1, God spoke and by His word, the world was created. In John, there is a “Word” (Logos). The first section of John is a heavily debated passage that merits inclusion in the FAQ section and a detailed study of it can be found here (To be linked).
