His name means Manliness1 and is a Greek name. He was a brother of Peter, and one of the twelve apostles.2 Originally a disciple of John3, Andrew was told by John that Jesus was the “lamb of God” which prompted him to meet Jesus and bring his brother Peter to meet the Messiah.4 It seems that that this makes Andrew the first disciple to meet Jesus but he did not say with him at that time since it is later recorded that Jesus came and called him to be his disciple5.
Andrew lived in Bethsaida6 where he was a fisherman in the sea of Galilee in partnership with Peter7 and also James and John.8 (Who also became disciples of Jesus.)
