Overview
His names means “dedicated” or “initiated”.
Enoch is described as walking with God for 300 years3. He was also of the line of “the woman” as opposed to the “seed of the serpent”. Perhaps the most remarkable feature of his life is that he was “taken by God.4” This differs from all the people mentioned in the chapter who explicitly “died”. Note that it only states that Enoch was “not” because he was “taken” by God but the exact meaning of this is debated.
Similar Biblical experiences can be found in Elijah who was taken up to heaven in a “whirlwind”5. Moses was buried by God6 but it does explicitly state that Moses died.
