Abel
Overview
Abel was the second born son of Adam and Eve. He provided a sacrifice to God of the firstborn of his flock while his brother Cain provided an offering of his crops. These were the first recorded offerings made to God. While echoes of both offerings can be found in the Old Testament sacrifices, Abel’s sacrifice of the firstborn lamb is aligned with the more significant sacrifice of the Passover lamb that was itself a foreshadowing of Jesus.
As a result of God accepting Abel’s sacrifice and rejecting Cain’s, Cain became very angry1. This motivated Cain to kill Abel, the first murder in history.
Abel is not recorded as having any children.
His parents Adam and Eve had another child named Seth in the place of Abel2. Seth went on to sire a line of people who result in the Godly man Noah in contrast to Cain’s evil line who most notably produced Lamech, another wicked man.
